Essay The Invasion of Iraq was Illegal - 1703 Words
ââ¬Å"If Husseins brutal dictatorship warranted war, then we might also need to invade Zaire, Zimbabwe, Syria, Libya, China, and a host of other countriesâ⬠(Babka) . This is a common argument that has been brought up by others who believe the invasion of Iraq was illegal. However, the failed diplomatic policies of the United States are what led to the failed invasion of Iraq. George W. Bush sent an invasion to Iraq with only Congress approving his ââ¬Å"Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002â⬠. However, he did not have the authorization he needed from the United Nations, therefore, the invasion of Iraq was illegal. It is true that Saddam Hussein was killing his own people, but the United States should not haveâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦At the end of the invasion on May 1st, 2003, no weapons of that nature had been found. (Pan) When Bush sent his request to Congress for the authorization of military force in Iraq, he misled congress about Iraqââ¬â¢s possession of weapons of mass destruction. He claimed that they had ââ¬Å"vast stockpiles of chemical weaponsâ⬠. He also left out key words that were used by his intelligence agency. Had he used these words, many doubts would have been made on his assertions, therefore, he misled Congress (The Iraq War is Illegal). After having the authorization from Congress, they required that Iraq must have shown to be threat to the United States and he also needed to have a resolution from the United Nations Security Council. Bush announced war on Iraq on March 2003 without the two, which were required. In an interview broadcast for NBCââ¬â¢s Meet the Press, Bush said that he had gone to war with Iraq based on the information he had about Saddam at the time, which was, their possession of weapons of mass destruction. Later in the interview, he speculated the possibilities of what could have happened to the weapons. He said that ââ¬Å"they could have been destroyed during the war. Saddam and his henchman could have destroyed them as we entered into Iraq, they could be hidden.
